It was an intense and close battle between the JRU Lady Bombers as they went against the LPU Lady Pirates in the Women’s Volleyball tournament at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila. Both teams showcased grit and determination to seal a win, in the end, only one team prevailed.
Both teams played with a high level of eagerness during the opening set. The JRU Lady Bombers were able to secure the first point of the match, while the LPU Lady Pirates continuously scored, clutching the odds to favor them. When the LPU Lady Pirates were one point away from sealing the first set win, the JRU Lady Bombers chased to tighten the gap between the scores, yet still fell short. The set ended with a score of 25-18 , in favor of the LPU Lady Pirates.
During the second set, the JRU Lady Bombers started strong and made sure to up their game and improve both their offense and defense. They scored the first five points of the set, while It was a tight-knit battle because of the close gap between the scoring of both teams, but the JRU Lady Bombers made sure to claim a second set victory with a score of 25-23.
The third set marked the LPU Lady Pirates’ redemption arc — determined to bounce back and reclaim the set win, they played with renewed intensity and sharper execution. Tight defensive coverage and well-timed attacks allowed them to control the tempo, as they capitalized on the JRU Lady Bombers’ errors and turned crucial rallies in their favor. With momentum finally on their side, the Lady Pirates closed out the set with a 25-22 score, keeping their comeback hopes alive and shifting the pressure back to the JRU Lady Bombers.
The fourth set served as the ultimate test of composure and endurance for both teams. With the match hanging in the balance, the JRU Lady Bombers came out aggressive, determined to extend the game. They opened with sharp serves and quick attacks from the wings, building an early lead that energized their bench. The JRU Lady Bombers found their right rhythm and was able to clutch a 25-20 set win against the LPU Lady Pirates.
For the fifth set that determined the fate of both teams, both the JRU Lady Bombers and the LPU Lady Pirates faced it head on. As the set reached its climax, the pressure was evident on both sides of the net. Each serve carried weight, and every dig sparked loud cheers from the crowd. In the end, the winning momentum was when both teams had a deuce or a tie score of 14. The JRU Lady Bombers secured the first winning point, making it a heavy challenge for the LPU Lady Pirates to win back their swinging match, and when the ball spiked and bounced hard on the court of the LPU Lady Pirates, the JRU Lady Bombers cried tears of happiness as they celebrated their win that was secured by a 16-14 final set score, with Nicole Deala declared as the Player of the Game, scoring 16 points, 15 attacks and 1 ace.
